Foundation Engineering at Fastly is looking for a Technical Writer to help create and standardize internal engineering documentation. As part of the Training and Documentation team, you will help define and build a repository of self-service documentation and training materials used by the Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance teams. You will partner with cross-functional teams to identify solutions for the ongoing development of our engineers, playing a key role in helping them quickly find and learn what they need to be successful.

What You'll Do

  • Edit and organize existing engineering documentation so that it’s easy to find, relevant, and accurate
  • Partner with SMEs to evaluate needs and identify gaps and areas for improvement
  • Create templates and guidelines that help engineers quickly and easily author consistent content
  • Work with our information architects to integrate visuals (diagrams, video clips) to enhance learning
  • Help structure and create supplemental instructional documentation for the technical training sessions created by internal engineers
  • Experiment with new technology, frameworks, and tooling as we evolve and expand our documentation and training repository and improve our onboarding experience

What We're Looking For

  • Experience creating a variety of content (quick starts, conceptual guides, integration instructions, how-tos) and you know when it’s best to use each
  • Education and background in communication/technical communication or similar, with a minimum of 3-4 years experience in an engineering environment
  • A passion (or at least a facility) for organization - you enjoy creating order from semi-chaos and excel at breaking complex information into easily understood topics
  • Curious about and enjoy interviewing technical folks, gathering requirements and then devising solutions
  • Experience writing or contributing to Style Guides (organization, grammar, style, tone, and voice)
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation frameworks and experience with GSuite, mkdocs, GitHub, Confluence, simpplr is a plus

In accordance with applicable law, Fastly’s minimum base pay for this role if hired in Colorado is 94,000. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fastly's equity plan. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations. Note that this role is available to candidates outside of Colorado and different minimum compensation may apply.
