About the job

This position is needed to help Twilio build the next generation of privacy data protection services which protect Twilio customer privacy and unlock Twilio business in multiple regions.

The team is building Twilio’s privacy data protection platform. This platform helps Twilio develop the fundamentals for privacy-by-design adoption for each product line, Eg. Message, Voice. This role will design and build modern microservices, gateway services and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, implement, test rigorously and support microservices at scale in a collaborative environment.
  • Develop a low latency, highly available, globally distributed services platform that is used by over a dozen products.
  • Develop secure and resilient customer facing APIs.
  • Embrace an engineering artisan culture, and take pride to deliver well-designed APIs and frictionless user interfaces
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering and business teams to complete our roadmap and priorities, and deliver value to our stakeholders
  • Demonstrate quickness in learning and ability to teach constantly.
  • Take part in sprint, weekly, and quarterly planning ceremonies.
  • Consistently share your ideas and request feedback.
  • Be responsible for SLA, oncall, incident resolution, customer feedback and participate in blameless post-mortems to make our products better.
  • Focus on our customers and have empathy for our users’ needs and businesses enabled by the Twilio platform.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication - ensure that complex software plans, designs, and implementations are communicated clearly and effectively to our engineers and partners.

Required:

  • 5+ years of software development experience writing production-grade code in Go or Java. Understanding and experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies is a must.
  • 5+ years experience in designing and building and operating high-scale, mission critical cloud based production systems.
  • Strong theoretical fundamentals and hands-on experience designing and implementing highly available and performant fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Exposure to high level service design -- modeling interfaces and internals in properly modular, composable, and extensible ways.
  • Extensive experience with REST API design and implementation
  • Understanding and hands on experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Drive quality by writing unit tests, functional tests and performance tests in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Break down requirements, estimate tasks to ensure high quality work you're doing.
  • Experience maintaining and operating always-on cloud services.
  • Communication and collaboration. You have strong communication skills and desire to make an impact and thrive in small, collaborative, energetic teams.

Desired:

  • Advanced level Go or Java skills with familiarity with best coding standards and proven record of high quality coding skills.
  • Knowledge of architectural patterns and archetypes for building mature services, especially for distributed and multi-regional systems.

This role will be based in our San Francisco, USA office.

This role will be remote and based in the USA.

  • The estimated pay range for this role, based in Colorado, is 132. 320 - 165.400
  • Sales Commission: Additionally, this role is eligible to earn commissions and eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
  • Non-Sales: Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state. This role is also eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
