Senior Director, Marketing Operations

The Senior Director, Marketing Operations will be responsible for the marketing technology, analytics, enablement, and program management functions of the marketing team. You will lead a team of subject matter experts across these functions to assemble and maintain the right technology, data and processes to help the Fastly marketing organization work more efficiently and effectively.

The marketing operations team serves both a tactical support and a strategic partnership function for the rest of marketing, enabling stakeholders to run more effective campaigns, define departmental goals & budgets, optimize inefficient technology & people processes, and more. You'll partner closely with leaders in sales operations, business systems, business intelligence, and finance to execute a unified operational vision.

You will work cross functionally with other department leaders to ensure marketing operations initiatives have broad stakeholder involvement and buy-in. Finally, you will be a strong voice for data-driven strategy within the marketing leadership team

What You'll Do

  • Define and champion the marketing technology roadmap in alignment with business systems and sales operations team
  • Build the marketing operations team and manage external vendors to support marketing operations objectives
  • Own the definition & evolution of key marketing performance metrics, incorporating new data points and insights as they become available, and partnering with Business Intelligence to make this data as self-service as possible
  • Build the marketing program management function to service as the connective tissue between marketing planning & execution
  • Diagnose the demand funnel, identifying areas of friction in our customers' buying journeys
  • Own key automation efforts like lead scoring & routing to ensure the right person gets the right interaction at the right time
  • Partner with Demand Generation, Sales Operations Sales Development to analyze trends and provide insights to improve campaign effectiveness across the sales and marketing funnel
  • Partner with Business Systems team to evaluate, select, deploy, and customize new technology for the marketing department
  • Own the marketing budget management processes, partnering with finance to define a unified approach across marketing for budget planning and reconciliation
  • Analyze marketing data and share insights across the department and company
  • Create and maintain reports and dashboards to report on marketing metrics
  • Define processes to enable accurate data collection of marketing investments and the results they deliver
  • Document processes, train marketing department staff, and manage change as improvements to how we work are rolled out

What You'll Bring

  • Deep technical experience with Salesforce, Marketo, Drift, LeanData, and similar related technology
  • Hands On experience using BI tools (Looker preferred) and data warehouse platforms (BigQuery)
  • Team-player; ability to establish trusted relationships with other Fastly team members
  • Experience building, leading, and nurturing a fully remote team
  • Comfortable contributing strategically as well as leading day-to-day tactical execution
  • Open, positive attitude towards change and personal development
  • Self-motivated and driven to make an impact
  • Clear, thoughtful communicator (verbal and written)
  • Excellent project management skills; proven ability to execute successful projects with minimal guidance in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • At least 9 years of experience in a technical or analytical role, 6+ years managing a team, 12+ years of total professional working experience

In accordance with applicable law, Fastly’s minimum base pay for this role if hired in Colorado is 194,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fastly's equity plan. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations. Note that this role is available to candidates outside of Colorado and different minimum compensation may apply.
