The job opening is for a full-time research scientist at Western Digital San Jose Research Center. The mission of the team includes (1) research and development of new technologies relate to data storage, and (2) support for Western Digital business groups, such as HDD and flash product design and manufacturing, by inventing new product functionalities and providing solutions to product issues. The individual is expected to carry out research projects both as an individual researcher and as a team member.
Minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field. Non-Ph.D. candidates with extensive industrial experience may also be considered.
The candidate should have:
Basic understanding of data storage systems and devices.
Demonstrated ability to self-direct a research project.
Strong communication skills and the ability to both work independently and in a team environment are essential.
