As a member of the security org, you will be working alongside your peers in ensuring the privacy of individuals in the community and company; specifically, by envisioning and building out the controls and systems that will allow GitHub to develop as a social network.

Job Responsibilities

As the Privacy Engineering Manager you will be responsible for supporting and growing this diverse team of engineers with the mission to improve the Privacy landscape on the platform where the world's developers collaborate. This role includes opportunities to:

  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineers at many experience levels.
  • Manage the people and team to plan, balance, prioritize and execute on their day-to-day responsibilities, projects, and career development objectives.
  • Foster collaborations across team, organization, and even company boundaries.
  • Deliver user-friendly tools and efficient automated solutions that enable an understanding of where private information may reside within GitHub.
  • Accrue and maintain an understanding of how privacy policy can best be implemented from an engineering standpoint while working to foster a collaborative, creative, and forward looking discipline within the team.
  • Foster our vision of encouraging good privacy practices internally and externally.

Minimum qualifications

  • 1+ years experience shipping well-tested, production software.
  • 1+ years experience effectively managing small to medium sized security or engineering teams.
  • The ability to take a pragmatic approach to decision making while applying practical security design principles and practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a strong sense of empathy.
  • Proven technical project management experience guiding strategic and tactical technical decision making and execution.
  • Experience and interest in developing and maintaining processes and programmatic practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in any of these technologies: Javascript, Typescript, React, GraphQL, Ruby, Rails, Java, Flink, Python, Go, C#.
  • Experience managing in a remote environment.
  • Experience working in Privacy.

Minimum salary of 104,400 to maximum 219,300 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired in Colorado.
