Khan Academy’s Philanthropy Team is charged with raising the philanthropic funds needed to fund and sustain Khan Academy’s audacious mission: To provide a free, world class education to anyone, anywhere. The team raises more than 40 million annually from a variety of donors (individuals, foundations and corporations) and aims to be best in class at being mission driven and donor centered.
Khan Academy has had substantial success in securing gifts from individual donors and high net worth individuals. The time is right to build a more structured program poised for growth. This is an exciting time to join this high performing team as we undertake a number of exciting strategic projects that will increase our reach and impact.
The strategic and results oriented Director of Major and Individual Giving is responsible for building, managing and executing a vibrant individual and major donor giving program. The Director will work closely with the Chief External Relations Officer and the Manager of Individual Giving to build a structured major and individual giving program including donor prospecting, cultivation and stewardship. In this role, the Director will manage their own portfolio, soliciting major gifts (100k+). A key part of this role is to develop and support the team as we build a growing giving program. Finally, the Director will work closely with senior leadership, including the CEO and Founder, to help manage and steward donors. The Director of Major and Individual Giving will report directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities
Management: effectively manage a dynamic team to identify, secure, and steward multiple fundraising programs focused on individual and major donors
Strategy and Growth: working across the Philanthropy team and across Khan Academy as appropriate, to develop, implement, and evaluate short and long-term goals and strategies for meeting the Philanthropy Team’s goals
Portfolio Management and Relationship building: initiate and build relationships with prospects and donors; as well as creating portfolios and pipelines for growth for members of the team to manage.
