Director, Business Development

The Business & Corporate Development team leads product partnerships, distribution, growth, business investments and strategic finance. We pay attention to emerging technologies and pursue new market opportunities in alignment with Mozilla's products. We want to add an outstanding leader to our team who can develop expansion and partnership recommendations for our business lines.

We work cross-functionally to develop strategies to optimize products, services and technologies for Mozillas existing and prospective users. The position requires someone who is highly strategic and analytical, approaches problems in a structured way and is comfortable with ambiguity. Experience writing business plans, building financial models, creating offerings from scratch, assembling operational teams and completing successful launches of partnerships, programs and/or products that drove substantial impact will be crucial to this role. Successful candidates will have a proven understanding of existing ecosystems (browsers, search, adtech, ecommerce, mobile) and newer technologies (payments, AR/VR, instant communication) and the ability to work effectively with technical, legal and business partners.

We are looking for someone who knows how to expand existing partnerships and secure new partners that will accelerate our growth initiatives, be aligned with our values and be committed to durable (multi-year) collaboration. This work requires a skilled communicator, a flexible mind, and a calm, committed temperament. The role has a global remit that requires creativity in engaging with prospective partners in a variety of industries. You will build partnership strategies as well as lead execution, including sourcing and negotiating complex, high-impact agreements. Working with senior executives at our partner organizations, you will become a trusted colleague to advance Mozillas priorities. Internally, the Director will advocate for our partners and the blend of offerings that we co-create, bringing an outside-in POV to help inform Mozillas business decisions. This role will report to the Vice President of Business & Corporate Development.

What youll do

  • Cultivate relationships with decision-makers at partner companies
  • Lead the full life-cycle of partnership execution from initial engagement through agreement structure, close and product/program/service launch
  • Articulate and refine Mozillas value proposition, to secure partner commitments to enter into mutually beneficial, sustainable relationships
  • Own market and opportunity assessment and recommendations; collaborate to develop forecasts and models to measure the value and impact of potential partnerships
  • Work with the account management team and cross-functionally (finance, product, data science, operations, and legal) to ensure partner success
  • Formulate and test market entry hypotheses, and co-develop recommendations with product (and engineering) teams
  • Directly and through your team, provide subject matter expertise for relevant landscapes, such as privacy & security consumer tech, search, adtech, mobile, ecommerce, shopping, AR/VR. Outputs may include, but are not limited to: industry scans, patterns and trends, competitive analysis, pricing/cost analysis, etc.

Key qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree required; MBA strongly recommended
  • 15+ years of experience in business development and product partnerships at software, hardware or Internet companies. Experience with browser and search industries a plus.
  • 7+ years of management experience, can operate as a coach and player as needed
  • Background in strategy, corporate development or management consulting a plus
  • Established record of sound judgment and decision making
  • Excellent communication, presentation and persuasion skills, i.e., direct and concise storytelling ability
  • Mozilla supports remote work
  • Travel once it is safe to do so
  • Able to supply sterling recommendations from colleagues, team members and former managers
